Lincolnshire County Council have released their Holiday Activities and Food Programme Golf Impact Report 2024, highlighting that 5,952 children were introduced to golf with Golfway equipment.
Since April 2021, the Lincolnshire CC Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme has supported children and young people receiving benefits related to free school meals through the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays. Children are invited to activity days, such as golf days with Golfway equipment, and have the opportunity to socialise, be active, and eat a nutritious cooked meal.
Research1 has shown that the school holidays can be a pressure point for some families, with children of low-income households experiencing:
- Reduced access to organised out-of-school activities
- Increased likelihood of experiencing 'unhealthy holidays' (concerning nutrition and physical health)
- Increased likelihood of social isolation
The HAF programme mitigates this by enabling the local council to reach these families and offer support throughout holiday periods.
Shona Goudie, Policy and Advocacy Manager at The Food Foundation, said, "The programme has been one of the major successes of Marcus Rashford's campaign to end child food poverty.
"Beyond just providing critical nourishment, the scheme offers enriching activities to combat learning loss and provides childcare to help hardworking parents who can't afford to take time off work."
Sarah Tyrrell, HAF Project Officer for Lincolnshire County Council, said, "During 2024, we were very fortunate to have amazing partnerships, including Golfway, PING, Co-op and Waitrose.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to our partners and providers for their contributions to the Lincolnshire HAF Programme. We hope to continue and expand the programme in 2025."
Golfway is proud to support Lincolnshire County Council with equipment donations and provide caps and golf gloves for children attending Golfway Play activity days.
Not just Lincolnshire CC
Magna Vitae, a registered charity that provides cultural, leisure, and health-related facilities activities in Lincolnshire, were recognised at the 2024 National Golf Awards as a finalist in the Diversity & Inclusion Champion category for its efforts to introduce golf to new audiences using Golfway equipment.
'Magna Vitae secured further funding to deliver the Unleash Your Drive Golf Foundation programme', according to Emma Rouse, contributor at Lincolnshire World.
