Unleash Your Drive impact report 2024

Unleash Your Drive is a comprehensive six-week programme devised by the Golf Foundation to improve the mental well-being of school children by utilising Golfway Play equipment and teaching mental toughness tools.

Fronted by Sky Presenter and Golf Foundation President, Nick Dougherty, and supported by The R&A, The PGA, BMW, GolfNow, Toro and Golf Holidays Direct, amongst others, Unleash Your Drive (UYD) now features in schools in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, with over 1,000 schools applying to deliver the programme.

Early results have shown an average increase of 20% in mental toughness tool understanding among pupils, meaning that after the UYD programme, children are better equipped to improve their focus, deal with challenges, and face setbacks inside and outside of school. Additionally, pupils have shown a 6% average rise in mental well-being while participating.

Every school that completes the programme receives a summary of the results showing the pupils’ change in mental toughness, understanding, and overall mental well-being. Dougherty said about the programme, “We are helping to provide young people with the life skills to help meet the challenges of modern-day life.”

Schools can apply to become part of the UYD programme via the Golf Foundation website. External providers such as golf clubs, PGA pros, Community Golf Instructors and other grassroots coaches can apply via the external service providers webpage.
