The Open Swingzone 2024 - Colin Montgomerie wins the Golfway chipping challenge!

Jan 15, 2025 Golfway

While Xander Schauffele etched his name into golfing history by winning The 152nd Open at Royal Troon, the Golf Foundation and Scottish Golf were positioned in The R&A Swingzone hosting Golfway challenges.

The Swingzone is all about participation and inclusion, with everyone welcome to pick up a Golfway club; participants throughout the week varied from youngsters taking their first golf swing, to celebrity players such as rugby star Bryan Habana and World Golf Hall of Fame inductee Colin Montgomerie.

The Golfway Chipping Challenge proved popular with Jonathan Edwards CBE and @LittleBirdyGolfcoming runner up to Montgomerie, who topped the leaderboard with a record 440 points.

Unleash Your Drive

The Golf Foundation also took this opportunity to showcase their Unleash Your Drive in schools initiative, which has recently expanded into Scotland. The Unleash Your Drive programme encourages young people to develop resilience, focus and a positive attitude, through easy-to-play golf games using Golfway Play equipment alongside mental toughness tools.

Brendon Pyle, CEO of the Golf Foundation said: “We are very excited about what can be achieved with Unleash Your Drive. The programme aims to get more children into golf, create pathways into the sport, and support children’s mental health and wellbeing. These outcomes attract interest from schools, communities, and golf clubs, and we are committed to making a significant impact on multiple fronts with Unleash Your Drive.”
